Yan'an Pagoda Mountain

Pagoda Mountain is a very famous scenic area that combines natural scenery and cultural landscape and integrates historical relics and revolutionary sites. It symbolizes the famous historical city of Yan'an and also represents a sacred revolutionary shrine. It is not only a landmark building of the city of Yan’an but also a must-go place for visiting Yan'an.

The Pagoda Mountain is 1,135.5 meter high, with a pagoda on the top of the mountain. Originally built in the Tang Dynasty, it is currently seen as a building of the Ming Dynasty. In the shape of a level octagon, the pagoda, as a brick tower, has nine floors with a height of about 44 meters. After the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China settled down, the pagoda became a landmark and symbol of a revolutionary shrine.

After the founding of new China, the State Council listed the Yan'an Pagoda as one of the Yan'an revolutionary sites on the list of the first batch of major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level, graded as AAAA.

Aside from the Yan'an Pagoda as one of the major historical and cultural sites protected at the national level on the mountain, there are also inscriptions on precipices from the Song Dynasty, the Big Iron Bell from the Ming Dynasty, the stone tablet of “Renovation of Jialing Academy of Classical Learning” from the Qing Dynasty, the Sweet Spring of Fan Zhongyan, the Beacon Tower, the ancient city wall, the Enemy Watching Tower and other such historical relics, as well as the former site of Japanese Party of Workers and Peasants, monumental inscriptions of poems by eminent people and so on.
