Xi'an is Named the 2019"Cultural City of East Asia"

On the tenth culture minister conference among China, Japan and Korea held on August 30th, Luo Shugang, the minister of Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the people's republic of China, Do Jonghwan, the minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea ,and Hayashi Yoshimasa, the minister of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, were awarding 2019 "Cultural City of East Asia" commemorative plaques to representives from Xi'an city China, Incheon city of Korea and Toshima District, Tokyo, Japan.

“Cultural Capital of East Asia” is an important cultural event under the leadership mechanism of China, Japan and South Korea. Launched in 2013,the international cultural city naming event co-founded by the three countries requires that the cities to be named have not only a long history and a rich culture, but also remarkable achievements in foreign cultural exchanges, public cultural services construction, intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritance, and cultural relics protection. 

Xi'an is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization. It is the city where most dynasties located their capitals and the city with greatest influence in the history of China. In recent years, Xi'an culture and tourism industry has developed at a high speed, and is moving steadily towards the goal of becoming an opening-up and inclusive “international metropolis”.
