French President Macron visits Xi'an

At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President Emmanuel Macron paid a state visit to China from January 8 to 10. The first leg of his visit was Xi'an.

On January 8, the ancient city of Xi'an, with a history of more than 3,000 years, received a French president once again.

Macron was the fourth French president visiting Xi'an after Francois Mitterrand, Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy, as well as the first French president visiting the city where the Ancient Silk Road started after China proposed the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Elysee Palace said that Macron's choosing Xi'an as the first leg of his visit is of great significance, because Xi'an is "the cradle of Chinese civilization and the starting point of the Ancient Silk Road".

Macron visited Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum, Great Wild Goose Pagoda and Huajuexiang Grand Mosque in Xi'an, and delivered a speech at Daming Palace National Heritage Park.
